Autumnal Ochres...

Throughout this year like so many other people my garden has been my refuge. I think doing something physical helps and I wanted to be outside as much as possible. So the stitch side of life had taken a back seat. Now winter is here it's been great fun to have a new project, get back to creating again and have the opportunity to use a wide range of techniques. 

Margaret chose green, but I know Margaret's favourite time of the year is Autumn so I wanted to include autumnal foliage. I picked ferns from my garden which I printed onto hand dyed fabric. Mulberry bark, painted Tyvek, free motion quilting, embellished with hand stitch and beads.

Debbie chose mustard/ochre. The challenge was finding the right colour, but you know we've all got a stash somewhere we can dip into. With the help of painted papers, sari silks and wool fibres it all came together. I had a piece of hand dyed fabric with a curved edge which gave the perfect line to follow. I felt it needed a little grey to set the whole thing off so added painted lace doily, knitting yarn and tied buttons. Machine and hand embellished.
